HOW YOU CAN HELP AND GET HELP

Find out how the $9,000 donated to OneChild empowers and saves youth. OneChild is a multiple award-winning and the first organization in the world dedicated to empowering a movement of children and youth to lead the fight against the sexual exploitation of children, including child sex trafficking.

OneChild's founder, Cheryl Perera was nominated for a 2025 Noble Peace Prize.  At  just 17, she journeyed alone to Sri Lanka on a 3.5 month investigation of the sexual exploitation of children in Sri Lanka, and partnered with the National Child Protection Authority, playing the main role of the decoy –a 15 year-old prostituted– child in an undercover operation, which led to the apprehension of a 40+ year-old child sex perpetrator. She met with an advisor to the President of Sri Lanka, to share her concerns and plead for action to be taken.

Girls -One Body Village
READ about how the over $76,000 donated to One Body Village Canada helps sexually exploited children in Southeast Asia, where resources are limited and widespread poverty, lack of education, cultural attitudes, and corruption perpetuate the cycle of sexual abuse and exploitation.

We improve the lives of at-risk and affected children with shelter, education, medical and behavioural care, psychological counseling and vocational training.

Together, we can help children regain their dignity, restore their self-esteem, realize their self-worth, and rebuild their lives. Because every child on this earth deserves to be free from abuse and exploitation.

At Covenant House, we have made trafficking a major focus of our work. We have implemented our Urban Response Model, a comprehensive anti-trafficking plan that includes measures ranging from prevention to enhanced victim services, including two supported housing programs, The Rogers Home and Avdell Home, as well as a research and evaluation component

"In 2015, I broke free after being trafficked for over a year. When I connected with my advocate with the Anti-Trafficking Team at Covenant House, it was the first time I felt someone understood what I had been through and what I was still dealing with."

Know the signs. Save a life

KNOW THE SIGNS

Experts say many girls who are trafficked for sex or being groomed for trafficking still live at home with their families.

Sex trafficking often masks itself as a love relationship for a girl, though a deeply unhealthy one.

Warning signs of luring into sex trafficking:
• She is “disengaging,” her grades are slipping and she is skipping school or missing her curfew
• She seems to have low self-esteem, and a strong need for approval
• She is being isolated or turned against family and friends
• She is changing her appearance
....
Warning signs after one has been trafficked:
• She changes her phone number, or carries more than one phone
• Her purse contains everything she would need for a “sleep out,” including spare shoes and a bra
• She avoids eye contact and is fearful, anxious, depressed, submissive, tense, or nervous/paranoid
• She is not allowed or able to speak for herself
• She is not receiving proper health care and may appear malnourished
• She shows signs of physical and/or sexual abuse, physical restraint, confinement, or torture
• She has few or no personal possessions including no official identification documents
• She has a lack of knowledge of her whereabouts or may not know what city she is in
• She has lost sense of time and may not know the date
• She has numerous inconsistencies in her story, seeming to adhere to scripted or rehearsed responses
• She has been branded with a tattoo
• She shows signs of substance abuse or addiction
